Dear Michael Moore:Don't Eff This One Up

I am not a fan of Michael Moore. Let me rephrase that: I'm not a fan of Michael Moore movies. I didn't get Bowling for Columbine (are guns good or bad? He gave more arguments for the former rather than the latter, yet the conclusion was the latter, I think). I could have made a better 9/11 movie than him, if I had the sameresources. (I watched it several times just to make sure I didn't miss something....) I haven't wanted to waste my time on Sicko, because I know I probably wouldn't like it, either.

That being said, I hope he actually pulls this one off:

BYU Democrats Hosting Slacker Uprising Screening

I will be writing a post about Michael Moore and his new movie Slacker Uprising that is released tomorrow (Tuesday) after I have seen the movie.

However, I think this is really cool. There is a place on the movie web site where you can sign up to host screening parties. There are two parties listed for tomorrow (opening day), and one of them is being hosted by the BYU Democrats.

From the BYU Democrats' email they sent out:

Tomorrow (Tuesday the 23rd) we will be showing Michael Moore's new movie, Slacker Uprising, at 7:00 p.m. in 270 of the Kimball Tower. It is the first time ever that a major feature-length film is debuting as a free download on the internet. This movie is specifically for us, the youth to be energized and get out the vote. We are the next generation as far as progressive politics goes. Come experience this new movie with us, it is FREE for everyone to see and bring some food. It's a potluck. Here's the link with the trailer: http://slackeruprising.com

VP Cheney at BYU: It's Michael Moore/UVSC all over again

While I like that there is opposition to Dick Cheney speaking at BYU comencement, I do not agree with the calls to cancel the speech or find annother, more liberal, speaker.

Why?

It's looking way too much like the controversy 3 years ago at UVSC.

There has been lots of discussuion on the Mormons for Obama listserv about this. Some of the comments disturb me in their similarity to comments from 2004.

And that scares me.

Political Thinking

Shaun has an interesting post about political thought in Utah. With tongue planted firmly in cheek:

That's it! Republicans don't think democrats should drive decent looking cars!

I'll show them. I'll support legislation that bans business owners from writing off those nice cars they lease. We all know that ALL republicans are business owners so I'll be able to stop them from having nice cars too!

The only trouble is that it won't stop there...

Next week when I get an oil change I'm going to have to make sure that it's a good democrat that does it. If I let a republican do it who knows what they'll sabotage on my car!

You see, those republican business owners want me to do my part in saving the economy by buying things I don't need. Like say, a new car.

As Homer would say (Simpson, that is), "It's only funny because it's true."

It's not just political thought here in Utah, it's nationwide, promoted by the likes of Sean Hannity and Bill O'Rielly.

Liberal Media. Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy. Hillary Clinton. Michael Moore.
