Election Night Predictions

Saturday Night, I had a couple of friends ask me what I thought was going to happen in the elections.

The following are my predictions for election night 2006. They do NOT reflect what I want to happen, but what I think will happen.

Nationally:

I predict that the Democrats will retake control of the U.S. House of Representatives, but only by a margin of 5 votes. The Democrats will only manage to retake 5 of the 6 seats they need to pull off a majority there.

Utah -- Federal races:

Rob Bishop and Jim Matheson will roll to victories of around 20 points. In the third district, Chris Cannon will win by just 5 points, shocking everybody, and making everyone wish they had done more to help Christian Burridge. Likewish, Orrin Hatch will return to the U.S. Senate by a margin of under 10 points.

Utah Legislature

The republicans/Democrats ratio will remain the same in the Utah Senate. However, expect the Republicans to add to their uber-majority by one seat, possibly two.

Salt Lake County

The Republicans will retain thei 5-4 advantage on the County Council. Sherrie Swensen will retain her Clerks job, as will most of the incumbents.

The exception to that is the fact that we will have a new Sherriff in town. Jim Winder by 5.

Oh, and the Democrats will lose the DA's office do to their (our) forgetting to fight.
