Media Proved Today that Racism is Alive and Well in the US

Was it just me, or did it seem like reporters and camera people were trying to find black people to interview.

I get the history of today's events, but it seems to me that it was a little obsessive.

We don't have a Black President. We have a President of the United States.

I guess I see it a bit differently. It'd be nice if race didn't need to matter. But I think it will be good for Americans to have to get used to looking up to a black person. That will be an adjustment for a lot of people who are very comfortable looking down.

I think that's one reason why it's worthwhile for the media to focus on the perspectives of people of color. The battle for fair treatment is still being fought every day, and having Obama in office is a good everyday reminder that black people deserve respect, too.

I wrote about it in my blog this morning: http://www.poorpenmanship.com/2009/01/why-race-matters-to-this-wasp-today.html

However, if that's ALL the perspective we're getting, then it's wrong.
