Really, Democrats? Colbert? It's as if we Like to Lose
Immigration is a serious problem. It's broken. Republicans have a plan to fix it. It's a horrible plan.
And Democrats, we havea plan Stephen Colbert.
What better way to show we're serious about immigration than to have comedian come testify?

You know what...this kind of attention is not "Bad". How many people do you think would have even tuned in for that hearing otherwise?
Now, this isn't a trend I would like to see repeated too often but he DID participate in the "Take our jobs" program so I can see the relevance of his testimony...and am glad that he at least broke character a bit at the end to throw out some vital opinions.
Honestly, I felt like you at first but as I started to listen to the whole thing, I started to see the positives.
With 14% approval, what does this congress have to lose?!?!
Stephen Colbert speaks truth to power. He often uses humor to soften the blow.
From today's testimony:
Maybe we could give more visas to the immigrants, who — let’s face it — will probably be doing these jobs anyway. And this improved legal status might allow legal immigrants recourse if they’re abused. And it just stands to reason to me if your coworker can’t be exploited, then you’re less likely to be exploited yourself. And that itself might improve pay and working conditions on these farms and eventually Americans may consider taking these jobs again.
Or maybe that’s crazy. Maybe the easier answer is just to have scientists develop vegetables that pick themselves.
Is there anyone else in politics or the media who has recently said anything that sensible about immigration policy?
Could be worse..could've been elmo...or Roger Clemens testifying before congress. Because that wouldnt be even remotely absurd.
