Buttar's head in the sand

Sometimes, the elected representatives we have in Utah make me realize why people have crazy, mixed up views of Utah as a crazy, messed-up place.

Today's target: Chris Buttars.

It's been reported this week by both local papers that Sen Buttars wants to outlaw Gay/Strait Alliances in schools. Mostly beacause they must talk about "S-E-X," because that's all these clubs talk about.

"What do you think they're talking about at their meetings?" Buttars says of the gay-straight clubs. "If you've got a chess club what are you talking about? If you're in a gay-lesbian club, you're talking about sexuality."

....

"We're careful. We don't want to cross the line," [Sara] Hardcastle [President of GSA at Hillcrest High, and strait] says. Members talk about intolerance, teen alienation, and destructive stereotypes. "I don't think we've ever had [sexual orientation] come up in discussion."

But Buttars says: "That's another lie of the gay groups." (source: Tribune)

How much do you want to bet that Sen Buttars has never been to a meeting? And why isn't he banning Football (if it's anything like when I was in high school...)? For that matter, some of the discussions I hear in school classrooms makes me blush. Sen Buttars would probably puke.

I wonder when the last time Sen Buttars stepped into a classroom during a school day...
