Treating Veterans Like Turds

I was talking to a friend of mine who reported that his mom thought it was inappropriate to protest the President while a bunch of Veterans were in town.

He found it appropraite, because of then way the Bush administration has treated the veterans by reducing money to VA programs while creating a whole new batch of Vets.

And, don't forget about 18-hour bus rides to welcome those new vets.

Sounds like supporting the troops to me....

I believe the phrase I used was this:

I'm not protesting the vetrans; I'm protesting the man who is creating more vetrans than he needs to.

Bob, that's all very noble of you and Shaun, but the sad fact is, most of those vets inside the Salt Palace think the protest is directed in part at them. I guarantee that's what the Vietnam era vets are thinking. I'm one of them.

I just wish all the energy and work involved in protesting Shrub would instead go into something worthwhile and constructive that will result in moderate Utah Republicans voting for Pete Ashdown, Jim Matheson, Steve Olsen and Christian Burridge.

A protest featuring Rocky Anderson and Cindy Sheehan is going to have opposite the desired effect.

The veterans shouldn't be surprised that Bush treated them like "turds". They should have seen it coming after the way that the Republican party treated one of their own in the 2004 Presidential election. And it wasn't an ordinary veteran -- it was a veteran that had won three Purple Hearts, a Bronze Star, and a Silver Star.

I feel sorry for the poor but decorated soldiers coming out of Iraq today that may have political aspriations. Heaven forbid they run up against a member of the Bush clan and have their name and military record drug through the dirt.
