Greg Hughes and the Second President of the United States

From Out of Context, talking about the Republican Party's radio show last week:

- Before getting to business, the hosts explain that callers are welcome, but should be prepared to answer a rudimentary civics question. It's a way, [Rep. Greg] Hughes explains, to screen out the morons. For example, [Senator Howard] Stephenson asks, "Who is the second President of the United States?"

Ooh. Ooh. I know. Here's a hint.

There's an awkward exchange before Hughes answers: "Thomas Jefferson." (No. No. No. No. No! But it answers a lot of questions I've had about the callers who get on the air. Surely Stephenson will set him straight.)

"That's right," says Howard.

Jefferson was Third.
