The Cult of In-and-Out

As you may know, the first two locations of In-a-Cult Burger on the Wasatch Front opened last week to long lines.

Much like what happened when Krappy Kreme Donuts opened in Orem.

Well, I've wondered what is so good about In-a-Cult. Is it their never-frozen beef? Well, Wendy's has that. Is it the fresh produce? Well, most places have that.

Everyone says that the Milkshakes are the reason to go. Three flavors of Milkshake? Please. McDonald's sometimes has 4.

So, why do Utahns (and everyone else for that matter) go gaga for In-a-Cult?

Brand's Anatomy has the best answer I have come across:

There are also several factors which affect the psychological connection with the legendary chain. Beginning in southern California, they had access to a large number of vacationers. People on vacation are pumped full of endorphins (technical way of saying they feel good) and that results in general enjoyment of most things, even waiting in lines at Disneyland to an extent. Vacationers come back with memories, which often included a visit to In-N-Out, which was an exciting and new burger to these people. Their excitement and bragging makes great word of mouth, thus a legend is born.

It's a fast food joint. Get used to it.

In-N-Out Cult Coming to Draper

Another fast food chain with sub-par food is coming to Utah:

KUTV -- Burger fans in Northern Utah have reason to celebrate.

Draper City announced today that the owners of In-N-Out Burger have submitted plans to build a restaurant at the Draper Peaks Shopping Center, located at 12195 S. Factor Outlet Dr.

Draper Mayor Darrell H. Smith said, "We are very pleased to be the first location in northern Utah. Our residents expressed in a survey that this was one of the restaurants they would like to see in Draper."

I'm convinced they are a cult.

Cheese on a Plate

When asked whether the Jazz were still motivated to win, having already exceeded expectations (this was before yesterday's loss), AK47 said "We're always hungry. I never won a championship. I want to win. It's tough to do. Nobody said it's going to be cheese on a plate." (Jazz Notes)

The Cheese expert who lives in my basement is in Canada this week, so I am unable to ask him how easy cheese on a plate is.

Maybe Alton Brown can tell me. He's the star of one of my favorite TV shows called "Good Eats." Yes, it's a cooking show. However, it's more about the science of cooking than just giving you recipies. And, it's funny.

I recently found this DVD set for the show. The set consists of 27(!) DVDs, so I'd be entertained for months! It only costs $250, and Christmas is in only 7 months....

Flip Flop For Free Flapjacks Day!

I just wish today was Friday, so the Alliteration would be complete!

ANyway, today is free pancake day at my second-favorite pancake place: IHOP. Go get your free short stack today! All they ask for is a voluntary donation to the Children's Miracle Network, which is a good cause.

the flip flop comes by way of digging out my old flip flops in honor of Mitt Romney's visit to the Grand America Hotel, showing that he is a man of the people. And, he's proving the point that he isn't beholden to Mormons by waiting an entire week after announcing his bid to come to Utah.

The picture is one I took of a bathroom stall at the Grand America while attending a friend's wedding last week. Both the parents of the Bride and Groom have already given their $2300 to Mitt.
