Ron Paul vs. Barack Obama

Frank Staheli commented in my previous post that he is supporting Ron Paul, and that a Paul vs Obama matchup would be ideal.

And I couldn't agree more.

Ron Paul says many things that I wish more Republicans said. In fact, if there were more Republicans like Ron Paul, I might still be a Republican myself.

Ron Paul isn't afraid to speak his mind and tell it like it is.

If I were to cast a vote in the Rpeublican Primary Feb 5, I'd vote for Ron Paul.

I could be completely wrong, but since the Democrats usually have an open primary, you could do both. You could register as a Republican, vote for Paul and also Obama in the Democratic primary. Again, someone may be able to clarify this. Of course, you would have to register as a Republican, and who knows what the hell will happen next, even if you change it again the next day.

According to my understanding of the way this year's primary is going to be run by the State of Utah, you are only allowed to vote in one primary. Furthermore, if you are registered as a member of one party you can't vote in the primary of annother party (i.e. Republicans can't vote in Democratic Primary).

Which reminds me. I might need to change my voter registration from the last Republican Primary I voted in....

According to a discussion I had at a recent county party meeting, the Democrats won't make you change your affiliation to vote in the Dem primary. So Republicans can vote in the Democratic primary and remain registered as Republicans. However, Republicans have a rule saying that you have to be a Republican to vote in a Republican primary. So, if anyone wants to change parties, that's fine, but you don't have to if you want a say in who gets the Democratic nomination. :)

I wish both parties would have open primaries. If Misty is right then I'll make sure that I'm registered Republican and vote in both.

Ron Paul says one or two things that seem to appeal to almost everybody. The problem is that he's an overall nutjob living in some Libertarian fantasyland.

There is a good summary of his political positions here.

Ron Paul's ideas about the foreign policy seem ideal, but I don't agree with him on domestic... issues like immigration.

Ron Paul is the man but Ron Paul foreign policy and Barack Obama immigration would be a perfect blend
