Congressman Slams Glenn Beck Over Gold Ads

Forget fast-forwarding through the commercials. New York Congressman Anthony Weiner clearly watches his news broadcasts live, because he’s seen some ads that have really ticked him off.

Weiner is calling for an investigation into precious metals seller Goldline, a company Weiner claims employs conservative broadcast talkers to scare viewers into investing in gold -– at grossly inflated prices.

“On numerous occasions, Glenn Beck has dedicated entire segments of his program to explaining why the U.S. money supply is destined for hyperinflation with Barack Obama as president. He will often promote the purchase of gold as the only safe investment alternative for consumers who want to safeguard their livelihoods. When the show cuts to commercial break, viewers are treated to an advertisement from Goldline,” Weiner says in a report released Wednesday.

Also mentioned by name in the report: Fred Thompson, Dennis Miller, Mark Levin, Laura Ingraham, Lars Larson, Michael Smerconish, Monica Crowley and Mike Huckabee. All paid Goldline spokespeople, all taking to the airwaves to tell people to invest in gold — and fast.

Weiner says Goldline’s most egregious, misleading sales tactic has involved the standard pricing of its gold – which he claims is 90 percent above melt value. That means the value of gold would have to double for the buyer to simply break even on the purchase. Beyond that, Weiner says, Goldline representatives present themselves as financial advisors even though they have no license to do so.

Goldline has already caused something of an ethical stir over at Fox News. Beck was a paid spokesperson for the company, until he was forced to step down in order to conform to network ethics policies. Even after that mini-scandal, however, Goldline remains a major sponsor of Beck’s show. If Weiner has his way, those ads will change quite a bit — and fast

Glenn Beck was interviewing US Senate Candidate Mike Lee earlier this week. Beck said that "Utah has played a really nasty role in the history of our country...." The goes on to site the Smoot-Hawley Act, saying "SmootHawley" was from Utah. Then he says Utah is to blame for Harry Reid. When Mike Lee corrected him that it was Nevada that elected Harry Reid, Glenn says "but Harry Reid...."

The fun starts about 1:20 into this, if you want to minimze the amount you have to listen to the Hatemonger in Cheif:



Why, Glenn? Is it because Harry Reid is Mormon?

I guess Glenn Beck is Utah's fault, too.

The Unpatriotic Commie/Liberal America-Hater Carl Wimmer

So, I want to start a revolution. Protest against the wrongs my government is imposing on me. Since this is 2010, the most important thing to have is a name. Hmm....

Let's name it after someone from the revolution! I found the perfect person!

He's a failed businessman turned lawyer (conservatives hate lawyers!). In his most famous case as a lawyer, he defended a law that restricted how much clergymen got paid (this is so perfect. We liberals love government declaring how much people get paid). Not only that, but the judge in the case was this lawyer's father! (Old-school Chicago politics at it's finest!)

This person used the momentum from this win to get elected into his colony's legislative body. (we liberals love electing celebrities!)

Nine days after being sworn into office, he proposed an act "in language so extreme that some Virginians said it smacked of treason." (Ann Coulter is going to write her next book about us. I know it!) In fact, he allegedly said "If this be treason, make the most of it!" The freshman representative waited for an opportunity where the mostly conservative members of the House were away (only 24% was considered sufficient for a quorum). In this atmosphere, he succeeded, through much debate and persuasion, in getting his proposal passed.

Later, in a speech to the legislative body against their federal government, he used graphic name calling, according to the only first-person record of the speech. (Typical Liberal can't say anything without cussing.)

Then, when he was Governor (for the second time), he voted against the ratification of the Constitution. (You can't hate America more than that!) George Washington tried to appoint him to be Secretary of State, but he declined because he didn't like Washington's policies. (Man, when you hate America, you really hate America!) But, he later changed his mind (flip-flopper!) and liked Washington better than Jefferson and Madison. (Hey, those are two more Founding Fathers! I really must be an unpatriotic Commie/Liberal America-Hater to name my caucus after this guy!)

Well, after all of that reading, I have come to find out that someone has already named their caucus after this person. What crazy liberal did that?

However, if a Democrat had done something like Patrick Henry, or even in 2008 had spoken out against the Federal Government in the way the PHC do, they would have been called Unpatriotic Commie/Liberal America Haters by Glenn Beck.

Glenn Beck = Mormon = Socialist

Last week, Glenn Beck ranted about "Socialist" artwork at Rockefeller Center. So, naturally, I took him to task for it. Using his same logic, I called the religion he and I share Socialist and Paganist.

The Daily Utah Progressive goes a step further, pointing out that when Glenn Beck disses Socialists, he disses his own people:

Yes, Glenn Beck is an LDS convert. But I don’t really want to focus on that. After all, that would be like tearing down half my family. I want to focus on some good things about the Mormon culture, that as a convert, are now apart of Glenn Beck’s supposed religious ideals. If he converted for the right reasons in the first place. Mr. Beck, how well do you know your LDS history? I don’t believe you know anything about them. Did you know that Deseret was a state of clustered socialist communities that worked and lived for their church. They, to this day support all of their kind who are in dire need. The LDS church has a fine history of charity and well fare system. They worked to support ALL of their members. That is by definition, Socialist; working for the good of the WHOLE. ZCMI, a famous department store in SLC for a long, long time. Until a couple years back it was sold two times and is now called macy’s. ZCMI stands for Zion’s Cooperative Mercantile Institution. (Note: I do not believe Mormonism is Communist nor Paganist. However, Glenn Beck (a fellow Mormon) does give us a pretty good argument)

In the first piece of artwork, there is art of a hammer and sickle and some wheat.

DXang those communist farmers.

But wait, there's an LDS scripture that comes to mind:

2 Therefore, O ye that embark in the service of God, see that ye serve him with all your heart, might, mind and strength, that ye may stand blameless before God at the last day.

Oh, and then the second piece of artwork Brother Beck looks at has a strong leader leading Industry (in the form of a horse) to a bright future for the youth.

In Mormonism, we had a strong leader (Brigham Young) who lead an industrious people to a bright future where they focused on their youth.

The third piece of art proves that beating your swords into plowshares as stated in Isaiah (and second Nephi) is Communist also.

But where are the people beating their swords into plowshares? Why in XZion, established in the tops of the mountains......

But in the 4th piece of art, we learn that police beating people and armies wearing gas masks are communist also. JM Bell will be glad to know who got him in Denver last year.

And, well, if we are going to look at symbolic artwork converting the thousands that walk by it every day, let's look at all the people converted to paganism walking past that Salt Lake Temple, shall we?

Perhaps Beck's biggest fault is his lack of sincerity. He cries not for the future of America, as he so dramatically does on camera. He weeps for ratings (which, after this controversy, reached a personal high of 2.4 million viewers daily).

How does he care about the victims of the 9/11 attacks when he also criticizes many of the victims' families because "they're always complaining" -- yet shamelessly uses the 9/11 tragedy to push his "9-12 Project," a movement to bring together like-minded people based on his nine principles and 12 moral values? (One of his 9-12 principles is "I must always try to be a more honest person than I was yesterday." He's obviously not trying hard enough.)

I support Beck's right to be a completely selfish, egomaniacal TV and radio personality who uses scare tactics on an unsuspecting nation for higher ratings. Fox can keep him on the air for as long as it wants to.

But everyone else has the right to stop him through any legal means possible.

Glenn Beck Doesn't Let Facts Get In His Way

Stadium of Fire Lies About Retiring a Flag

One of the most reverently patriotic things I have ever witnessed was a flag-retirement ceremony at a scout camp.

When I heard that Stadium of Fire was going to feature one, it almost made me want to attend. Yes, just for that moment.

So, imagine my shock that the ceremony was a fake.

Fifty thousand people stood in silence Saturday night as men in uniform brought a giant American flag into LaVell Edwards Stadium to be retired by incineration.

Or so the Stadium of Fire crowd thought.

In actuality, the 155-by-90-foot flag was not burned that night due to the toxins a nylon flag that size would have emitted, Provo Fire Marshal Lynn Schofield said.

"It would have been impractical to burn it in the stadium," Schofield said. "There is just no way you can burn that kind of a flag in that big of a group of people safely."

Event organizers originally planned for the no-longer-serviceable flag to be burned. But after talking to the fire marshal a few months ago, Stadium of Fire executive producer Brad Pelo said organizers realized that would not be possible in any type of container. After discussing other ways they could retire the flag, organizers did what they thought was most appropriate, Pelo said.

During the ceremony, the flag was put into a large, cauldron-like container, then flames appeared on its top. Many people teared up, including event emcee Glenn Beck, who emphasized to the audience what a special ceremony they were witnessing.

Last I checked, dishonesty was a violation of the honor code.*
