Hosting a major international sports competition has always been a point of pride for the host country, be it World Cup Soccer or the Olympics. It's the chance for us to have Home Field Advantage, for us to not have to get a stamp on our passports to wave our giant American Flag and shout USA! USA! Among the highlights of my life is standing in the crowd at the City and Cunty Building when it was announced that Salt Lake City would be hosting the 2002 Olympics.
So,imagine my shock when I saw conservatives cheering Chicago's loss last week.
Could you imagine the reaction from the Conservative Media had this been 12 months ago and it was the Liberals cheering?
All we'd hear is "why do you hate America?"
So, all you conservatives rooting against the USA: Whay *DO* you hate America?

MItt: Russia Doesn't Deserve Olympics For Following America's Lead
From Think Progress:
Then what you're saying, Mitt, is that Chicago doesn't deserve the 2016 Games because of America's willingness to act militarily against a sovereign nation. Iraq was a sovereign nation back in 2003.
A nation without WMDs or ties to bin Laden. Now that they are part of the American Empire, they have ties to bin Laden....
oops.
Kinda hard to be the moral leader when you are doing the same things yourself. Just ask your buddy Larry Craig.

HEWITT: But I do want to ask you about the Olympics and your experience there, in terms of whether or not the Russians ought to get the Olympics in 2014 after what they’ve done in Georgia.
ROMNEY: Well, Hugh, my own view is as the Caucuses are a hot spot, and as Russians have shown their willingness to act militarily against a sovereign nation, that the International Olympic Committee ought to revisit locating the Games elsewhere.

Obama Buys National Ad Time During Olympics
Ad Age:
It's official. Sen. Barack Obama's campaign will be among the TV sponsors of NBC Universal's Olympics coverage. In the first significant network-TV buy for any presidential candidate in at least 16 years, the Obama campaign has taken a $5 million package of Olympics spots that includes network TV as well as cable ads.
According to NBC's political file, the campaign had initially requested information about $500,000, $2 million and $4 million packages of Olympics spots. The network also offered the candidate a $10 million package.

Olympics Copyright Issues for Mitt?
The International Olympic Committee is very sensitive as to how the word "Olympics" gets used, filing Trademark protection lawsuits against anyone trying to use their logos or other trademarks.
I wonder how the IOC feels about Mitt using the Olympics in his marketing?

A missed opportunity of Olympic Proportions

I kept waiting to hear about a large community celebration happening yeaterday somewhere in Salt Lake City. Maybe at Galavan Plaza. Or Washington Square. Or maybe at the Olympic Plaza on the south side of Rice-Eccles Stadium. Rocky Anderson, Gov Huntsman, Peter Corroon would be there. Heck, Mitt Romney would probably make a cameo appearance. The LDS Church would probably send a representative.
We would relive the magic of that time when Utah, and her people, shined brightly before the world. Happiness and good feelings would abound.
Unfortunately, yesterday's five-year anniversary came and went without notice. Nothing was said on the 10:00 news.
